- Vision
At Highfields, Littleport we set out to create a development that would respect the landscape and visual qualities of the area and integrate with the local countryside. We wanted to create a range of homes that broke the mould of conventional new home developments and instead picked up from a traditional perspective to provide a more comfortable environment in which to live that embraced the natural world.
Prince Charles, in his book "A Vision of Britain" writes, regarding new buildings, "we should feel the lie of the land and its contours and respect them…", a philosophy we have taken up at Highfields, Littleport.
Living Space
Walking through Highfields you will get that indefinable sense of pleasure that you notice in hamlets that have evolved and been nurtured through time. The variety of house styles, the architectural details and irregular street layouts are all part of it. But you also get a sense of a place that has focal points and a soul. Highfields is a blend of many things that come together in harmony to provide a comfortable environment in which to live and be part of.
At its heart is Highfields Square, a more classic, geometric style; it lies at the end of the main street which in contrast provides a vista of softer, more irregular forms and patterns in a range of homes and cottages typical of village high streets across the county.
The materials used from the cobbled stones to the rosy, buff bricks have all been carefully selected to create interest as you pass from one street to the next.
Growing Space
One of the notable characteristics of Highfields is the network of greenways, natural pathways for walking, cycling or just relaxing. These follow the established hedgerows and contours of the land. Additional wild flowers, shrubs and tress are being planted along the greenways to encourage biodiversity.
The matrix of greenways across Highfields creates pleasant off road links for easy access to key areas and open spaces.
One of the benefits of the inspired use of space at Highfields is the variety of interesting outlooks and vistas, creating a delightful environment to walk around and inhabit.
